Mixed Media Illustration Tutorial
Length: 2 hours and 54 minutes
This tutorial walks you through the painting process that I developed over the past 20 years, working as an illustrator for clients including Rolling Stone, Bungie, The Grammys, New Yorker, Marvel, Outside Magazine, Major League Baseball, Criterion, and many others.
This video includes voice-over throughout the working process and explains design decisions made while drawing, basic color theory principles, as well as a specific methodology for mixing water-based media: acrylic, ink and gouache, and pencil.
I developed this process so that I could keep my drawing intact throughout the painting process, as well as mix my paint on the painting, not on the palette. Learn how to use a very limited palette to create a full-color illustration.
